A note about Health Benefits of Pokeroot or Pokeweed

Herbs are God and nature's gifts to us. While the use of herbs and herb remedies has brought excellent results for many people, do note that their health benefits may be limited when they are used in isolation. However, when combined with some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition, the impact on one's health will be greatly magnified.

In natural health and healing, we believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases. We also believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man’s understanding. It is thus a good idea to apply these fundamental health steps no matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem.

In addition, pokeweed is popular in treating eye infections like conjunctivitis.

Pokeroot decoctions are commonly used to treat respiratory infections like sore throats and tonsillitis, pharyngitis, dyspepsia; it is also effective in treating swollen glands and chronic infections.

Poke weed contains certain chemical substances like triterpene saponins, tannins, resins, glycoproteins, many other components and also an active glycoprotein lectin called pokeweed mitogen which stimulates lymphocytes and can cause hem agglutination. This particular property of pokeweed helps in acting chiefly on the skin, mucus membranes and glandular structures, overcoming lymphatic conditions.

Pokeweed is also being considered in treating diseases related to the immune system as it has the potential and the ability of an anti-AIDS medication. It has certain properties that help strengthen the immune system by interacting with the proliferating T-cells.

Poke root poultice or ointment is applied externally in an attempt to cure skin ulcers, sore and infected breasts, skin rashes, fungal infections like ringworm, acne and scabies.

Last but most certainly not least, pokeroot is also soon gaining popularity in its ability to treat cancers, especially of the breast and uterus. Research is being done to explore the exact nature and constituents of the poke root herb to conclude its ability to work as a natural cancer healing herb.

Poke root is an important and significant part of herbal antitoxin therapy which has been used in inhibiting the development and growth of certain types of tumors. Kelp is another herb besides poke weed which is popular in helping to melt tumors away.

Finally, pokeweed extracts are used as insect repellents and are considered to be extremely effective.

Even while its detractors keep trying to discredit it, poke root continues to be used in various effective and popular herbal remedies, including Dr Richard Schulze's Detox Formula. Dr Schulze is one of the greatest herbalists and natural healers of our time.
