Natural Canker Sore Treatment - Home Remedies for Relief

Are you seeking natural canker sore treatment?

To be so small, canker sores certainly cause a fair amount of pain. This is something you would probably be able to attest to if you are currently suffering from one or more of these ulcers.

Even though most canker sores clear up on their own in about 2 weeks, there are some natural health remedies that you can try at home when it comes to treating and curing canker sores. These remedies might offer pain relief, as well as speed up the healing and recovery time, too.

Sometimes, preventive measures are the best canker sore treatment options. By brushing your teeth with a soft-bristled brush and flossing on a daily basis, you might be able to keep your mouth clean and free of foods that can trigger canker sores. You should also avoid foods that are spicy and acidic, which can cause irritation and inflammation.

A note about Natural Canker Sore Treatment - Home Remedies for Relief

In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.

In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies.

Although canker sores are not dangerous and natural health remedies should be able to speed up your recovery time, you might want to consult your health care practitioner if the canker sore is accompanied by a high fever, or if you have difficulty drinking fluids. In addition, if the sores spread or if they last longer than 3 weeks, even with canker sore treatment, then you might want to have them checked out; these could be indications of a more serious underlying health condition.

While there are medications and mouthwashes on the market that claim to help heal canker sores, you can actually make your own concoction at home. Both hydrogen peroxide and baking soda, when diluted with water, make good mouth rinses. Just remember not to swallow the mixtures. You can use both of these rinses up to 3 times per day, as needed for pain relief. These are simple, inexpensive and effective home canker sore relief.

If your body is low in important nutrients, then taking supplements might help speed up recovery from a canker sore. You can take supplements in vitamin B6, vitamin B12, folic acid, and zinc. As soon as you start feeling a canker sore come on, you can also take 500 milligrams of vitamin C with bioflavonoids, 3 times a day for the next 3 days, which might keep it from coming. All of these can be found in tablet form at most health food stores. Using probiotics such as lysine supplements and acidophilus might also prove helpful in the treatment of canker sores, too.

Goldenseal root, which can also be found at most natural health food stores, can be made into a strong tea and used as a mouthwash. It has antiseptic and astringent elements that can act as a good herbal canker sore treatment. As an alternative to the tea, you can also mix it with baking soda and apply it directly to the canker sore in the form of a paste.

Keeping your canker sore free from irritation is also important. Stay away from foods that are high in amino acids, such as citrus fruit, coffee, spices, strawberries, and walnuts. Even when you have a canker sore, you should also brush and floss on a daily basis.

Canker sores are pretty common and do not generally pose any real threat to your overall health, but if after two weeks they haven't gone away with treatment, you might want to pay a visit to your health care practitioner.
