Cirrhosis of Liver - A Natural Approach
Cirrhosis of liver is the result of a chronic health condition where liver tissue is damaged and liver function deteriorates due to scar tissue.
Over time, as scar tissue replaces the healthy, the partial blocking of blood flow through the liver leads to the ongoing loss of quality and effectiveness of liver function.
As the disease hinders the liver from functioning, it loses its natural ability in controlling infection, processing nutrients, removing bacteria / toxins (including alcohol and / or drugs) from the blood, making the proteins necessary to regulate blood clotting, and / or producing bile to absorb fats (including cholesterol) and fat-soluble vitamins.

A note about Cirrhosis of Liver - A Natural Approach
In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.
In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies.
No medical cure exists for cirrhosis of liver, and for best results, liver ailments should be treated naturally in their earliest stages. A healthy liver is able to restore its own cells as damaged, but with advanced cirrhosis of liver (takes years), the liver has lost its ability to do so.
Once diagnosed with cirrhosis of liver, help your liver repair itself naturally from further damage with supplements such as choline (ammonia compound), which helps in the liver's detoxifying role (of everything we eat, drink, inhale or absorb), and methionine (essential amino acid); both can be helpful with the worst affects of the disease, particularly when practiced with an improved diet.
Vitamin B complex is essential for the liver at all times; during liver repair, it is needed to help the organ do its vital detoxifying work. This is true with extensive damage, as the liver may no longer be able to perform natural functions on its own. Supplements of vitamin C need to be taken in all stages, especially if alcohol has been involved (alcohol depletes C). Eat foods rich in vitamin K to further promote normal liver function.
When hit by cirrhosis of liver, it is important to compensate for all deficiencies that might be taking place by adding a multivitamin (not with iron, as iron is stored in the liver and this would only add strain). A good whole food supplement is best.
Because the liver deals with all dietary fats as well as stores fat-soluble vitamins such as A, D and E, all care should be taken until the liver begins to regain some of its function. Though these nutrients are important to the body, monitor their intake, getting as much as possible from fresh, whole, raw or lightly cooked foods. This also goes for animal products which are hard on the liver.
Milk thistle has been used as a natural herbal remedy for the liver for several thousand years, and will certainly help with cirrhosis of liver; its properties are also shown in numerous scientific studies. Several substances in the herb, in particular silymarin (a flavonoid), help by protecting the liver from toxins, including acetaminophen, better known as Tylenol. Silymarin has both anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Among other things, both help the liver in growing new cells.
Invaluable in the natural treatment of cirrhosis of liver, SAMe enhances liver function by helping to replenish vital substances and improving the flow of bile. L-Glutamine (amino acid) promotes the synthesizing of glutathione (antioxidant), while grape seed as well as green tea contain phytonutrients (also for antioxidant support).
