A note about Diets to Lower Cholesterol - Useful Foods

In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.

In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies.

The reason that fruits and vegetables are particularly good for you is because these foods have a high level of fibre, and fibre is a necessary component in diets to lower cholesterol. Things like beans and prunes are especially beneficial because they contain soluble and thus easily digestible fibre.

If you can eat around half a cup of cooked beans every day, this will have a significant effect on your cholesterol levels - you can add the beans to most meat and vegetarian dishes without significantly changing the recipe.

Provided you are not allergic to nuts, then these should form part of your diets to lower cholesterol. Walnuts, in particular, are useful when you have high cholesterol because they contain essential fatty acids, for example omega 3 fatty acids, which is great for everyone but especially for people with high levels of cholesterol. Nuts and walnuts should be taken in small quantities because they have a fairly high calorific value.

Studies show that garlic is efficient at lowering both cholesterol and triglyceride numbers in the body.

Oat bran is another food that helps to lower cholesterol levels. Again, this is a food that is high in soluble fibre and works well when mixed with fruit or cereals.

Essential fatty acids like omega 3 are ideal in a diet that is designed to reduce cholesterol. Most people's diets are deficient in these essential fatty acids, and almost everyone can benefit from a diet that includes more of them. Fish such as salmon and mackerel is a good source of omega 3 fatty acids, and an increasing number of people now take omega 3 supplements, which are available at most health food stores and even some supermarkets. You, too, could consider adding them to your diets to lower cholesterol.

Fish oil supplements are extremely beneficial to people with high cholesterol because they work to lower the levels of fat in your body. Not all cholesterol is bad, and the supplements are useful for raising the levels of what is known as good cholesterol in your blood.

A further benefit of a low cholesterol diet is that it really will help you to lose weight naturally. A good diet works much better at lowering your cholesterol levels when it is combined with a light but regular exercise regime.
