A note about Fever Blister Cure - Treating Cold Sores

In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.

In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies.

While it’s important to know that fever blisters are from a herpes virus, it’s also important to remember that lots of people get them. This virus is highly contagious, however, and care should be taken not to kiss anyone when suffering a fever blister outbreak.

While, strictly speaking, there is no fever blister cure per se, there are some natural remedies that will speed healing and cut the time of the outbreak nearly in half.

  • Think of when the fever blisters come out. For some, it could be when they are run down or suffering from certain vitamin deficiencies. It’s important to boost your immune system through supplementation. Choose natural, whole food supplements which don’t give you any unnatural additions on top of it. In terms of vitamins, vitamin C and B are excellent immune boosters; the same is true for vitamin D. Realize that a strong immune system is the best fever blister cure you are going to get.

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure, or use a natural sunblock. Many of these come in the form of natural lip balms, so it’s a good idea to have some on hand. Apply it any time you will be in the sun to help reduce the chances of a breakout.

  • Many people who get fever blisters report itching, tingling and burning in the area a few days before the fever blister erupts. It’s a good time to consider applying something like tea tree, red clover or lemon oil to the area. These oils all have anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties, so they should at the very least lessen the severity of the outbreak, if not act as fever blister cures. Keep applying a couple of times daily for best results.

  • Fever blister sufferers should also apply ice to the affected area as soon as an outbreak occurs, and should apply a teabag to the affected area once an hour for about 10 minutes. Tea contains tannic acid that is known for its antiviral properties.

  • It’s also important to watch what you eat during a cold sore outbreak, as foods that are very salty or high in arginine, such as chocolate, wheat, and certain types of nuts can contribute to the severity of the fever blister and should be avoided.

  • When there is a fever blister eruption, it’s very important to wash your hands immediately after touching them to prevent any kind of spreading. Make sure to use a clean glass or cup each time you have something to drink, and use clean silverware each time you eat. This will prevent reinfection to yourself that could occur.
