Gastritis Symptoms and Signs

Here, you will learn about some common gastritis symptoms and signs.

Gastritis can be a painful and uncomfortable condition to have, and it can be caused by several different factors. Some diseases, such as autoimmune disorders, chronic bile reflux, and pernicious anemia can cause gastritis, as can excessive alcohol consumption and a prolonged use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Gastritis can also develop after a traumatic injury, severe infection, burn, or major surgery. So what are some of the typical gastritis symptoms and signs?

The amount of damage to the lining of the stomach does not always correspond with the gastritis symptoms that are present. There might be very little symptoms with severe gastritis, and yet there might also be a lot of symptoms present when the damage isn't as severe.

A note about Gastritis Symptoms and Signs

In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.

In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies.

Sometimes, chronic gastritis doesn't have any symptoms at all. If it does bring symptoms, then individuals are more likely to feel dull pain and loss of appetite. On the other hand, acute gastritis develops suddenly and is more likely to cause burning pain and nausea.

Pain in the upper region of the abdomen is one of the most common gastritis symptoms. It is usually felt in the upper central portion of the abdomen and can sometimes be felt in the back as well. The pain can be described as gnawing, burning, sore, or aching. Occasionally, however, the pain can be sharp, too.

Belching is another one of the signs and symptoms of gastritis and may or may not relieve the pain. If it does relieve the pain, it is usually only momentarily.

Sometimes, regurgitation or the feeling of acid rising into your mouth from your stomach can be accompanied by the belching. In addition, nausea and vomiting might be present as well. Depending on the severity of the inflammation of your stomach, the vomit might be bloody, clear, green, or yellow.

Along with a feeling of fullness, individuals with gastritis might also experience bloating as one of the symptoms. This typically occurs soon after eating a meal, regardless of what kind of food was consumed. Individuals might also be unable to complete a meal due to the fact that they suddenly feel full with little to no warning.

In severe cases, gastritis symptoms might include sweating, a rapid heartbeat, feeling faint, chest pain, or severe stomach pain. Finding large amounts of blood in stools or diarrhea can also happen, too. In severe cases, these symptoms usually happen quickly and without warning.

The good news is that while gastritis is generally diagnosed using an endoscope that is inserted into the stomach, there are natural ways of treating it without resorting to medication. In fact, simple dietary changes are often enough to prevent symptoms from occurring and gastritis from developing in the first place.

If you experience gastric symptoms for a week or more, then you might want to pay a visit to your health care practitioner. This is particularly true if you suddenly experience blood in your stools or vomit, or if you are unable to hold down any liquids, which could lead to dehydration.
