Gingivitis Symptoms and Signs

Understanding some of the common gingivitis symptoms and signs that people experience on a regular basis will help you assess whether or not you are in fact dealing with this condition, and should also allow you to get the proper treatment that you need.

Fortunately, this is a dental problem that is controllable, especially if you make appropriate changes to your dental hygiene, so it is something that is manageable.

Here are the main signs and symptoms of gingivitis to know about.

Gum Pain Is Present

The first symptom that's normally most noticeable is pain in and around the gum region. This gingivitis symptom is usually accompanied by swelling and redness right where the gums meet the teeth. This swelling and redness may be just present in a single area on the gums, or it may be present all along the mouth if you're really suffering quite badly.

A note about Gingivitis Symptoms and Signs

In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.

In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies.

Bad Breath

Another common gingivitis symptom to remember is bad breath. Bad breath can also be caused by a large number of other factors, such as intense diets, coffee, smoking, alcohol intake, poor dental hygiene or certain foods that are eaten, such as garlic or ginger.

If you notice bad breath is a constant occurrence for you, however, that's a clear signal that something is likely up. Often, this breath will also persist despite you regularly using mouthwash to try and fight it.

Gum Color Is Altered

The third of the gingivitis symptoms to watch out for is a change in the color of the gums. Naturally, they should be a strong pink color, but when suffering from gingivitis, they will turn to be a deep red color that appears to be inflamed. This color is really quite evident when it's present, so it's not difficult to spot.

If just one area of your gum is red, this could simply be from some type of abrasion on the surface of the gum from a piece of food that hit it while chewing or during some other type of contact. However, it's when the gums are red in their entirety that you're looking at more of an issue.

Gums That Are Easy To Bleed

Flossing is an important dental hygiene practice that you should be carrying out regularly, but when you have gingivitis symptoms, usually the process of flossing becomes quite painful. When you're suffering from this ailment, you'll notice that the gums bleed a great deal as you floss them, which further aggravates how badly they feel.

If you are experiencing one or more of these symptoms, especially very red gums, which is the trademark of gingivitis, it's time to do something about it, perhaps go see your dentist. Gums can often bleed when flossed if you haven't flossed in a while, so if that's your case, wait a while and see if the issue subsides. If you continue to floss regularly and they bleed after each episode, however, then that's also a signal that you should make an appointment to get it looked at.

Conclusion

With the right care and treatment, taking care of your gingivitis symptoms and signs is perfectly possible and something you can do relatively quickly.
