What are some of the possible causes of dizziness?

Dizziness can be a scary thing. It’s often as if you’re standing there one minute and the next, the room can be spinning and the floor feels like it might be tilting.

While very often, dizziness passes quickly and there is no apparent reason for it, sometimes, it can be an indicator of something worse going on. Before you assume that your dizziness is a symptom of a major problem, however, you need to know some of the main causes of this ailment.

A note about Possible Causes of Dizziness

In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.

In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies.

Most causes of dizziness are not serious and will quickly resolve themselves. As many people get older, they will sometimes experience dizziness when they get up too quickly from a sitting or lying down position. Here are some other possible reasons and triggers:

  • Dehydration, such as from vomiting, can cause dizziness. Sometimes, people suffering from the flu who become dehydrated will find themselves feeling dizzy, too. To fight this, it’s important to drink plenty of liquids to keep yourself well hydrated at all times.

  • Dizziness can also occur if there is not enough blood getting to the brain. This will often occur when the blood pressure suddenly drops for a moment or two, or when a person is suffering from ailments like the common cold, which can reduce circulation.

  • Many people who suffer from a heart attack or stroke will feel dizziness in addition to all their other symptoms. The dizziness in this case is caused from a severe drop in blood pressure, much like going into shock, and will usually be accompanied by other symptoms such as chest pain, loss of vision, or other symptoms. This is serious and should be treated as such.

  • The most common cause of vertigo is usually an inner ear disturbance, such as an inner ear infection, that can disrupt your equilibrium and cause you to feel dizzy.

  • Another of the common causes of dizziness is when your sugar levels drop, causing hypoglycemia. While not everyone is hypoglycemic, if you don’t eat when your body needs you to, the sugar levels in your body can tail off, resulting in feelings of dizziness.

  • High blood pressure can also cause dizziness and should be addressed quickly, as it can be dangerous.

These are just some of the more common causes of dizziness, and your dizziness symptoms may or may not come about because of any of these issues. If you feel dizzy, the best thing to do is possibly to try to drink some water and, if it’s been a while since you have eaten anything, to try a little bit of peanut butter or orange juice, which can help to bring your sugar levels back up. The water will help if you are dehydrated. In some cases, these simple steps will help to stop the dizziness that you may be experiencing.

If you have vertigo for long periods of time, or you feel like you are going to pass out frequently, it might be necessary to seek professional attention, as these can be signs of more serious causes of dizziness, like blood pressure related problems or an inner ear infection.
