Natural Fever Blister Remedy

Looking for a natural fever blister remedy?

Fever blisters, or cold sores, are small sores that occur around the mouth, on the chin, cheeks, or in the nostrils. Approximately 45 to 80 percent of adults and children in the United States have had at least one bout of fever blisters.

These sores cause a great deal of discomfort and affect many Americans, which is one of the reasons why the National Institutes of Health (NIH) are currently engaging in research on the origin and prevention of fever blisters and other oral disorders.

Fever blisters develop due to the herpes simplex virus, which is highly contagious, and when fever blisters are present, extensive measures should be taken to avoid transfer of the virus. Often, there are few (if any) symptoms to signify contraction of the virus, but sometimes the initial infection produces a number of fluid-filled blisters in and around the mouth.

A note about Natural Fever Blister Remedy

In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.

In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies.

Once the herpes simplex virus has entered the body, it does not leave, although it may be dormant for extended periods of time. It is fairly common, however, for the virus to cause a recurrence of fever blisters on occasion; generally, these recurring blisters occur close to the mouth, and are preceded by itching, tingling, and burning sensations 1 to 3 days before their appearance. Although the herpes simplex virus cannot be cured, there are a number of remedies for fever blister which can be used to deal with cold sores and to lessen the discomfort with which they are associated.

First and foremost, the best way fever blister remedy is of course to avoid contracting the virus in the first place. Unfortunately, the majority of people who contract herpes simplex do so before age 10, so many adults who suffer from fever blisters lack an opportunity for recourse.

That said, because of the highly contagious nature of the virus that causes fever blisters, it is essential for those who come into contact with people who have current sores to make every effort to avoid contact with the sores.

A number of over the counter ointments are available as fever blisters remedies. There are products that numb the blisters to reduce the pain associated with movement of the facial muscles or contact, antibiotics to control the risk of bacterial infections and additional inflammation, and ointments that help to soften the blisters, making them less "crusty" and bothersome to those whom they affect.

In addition to topical treatment via over-the-counter products, there are a few other ways of naturally treating the sores. Although the exact temperature varies amongst individuals, many people report relief as the result of applying coldness or heat to a fever blister.

Furthermore, for those who have recurrent fever blisters, it may be wise to include increased amounts of chemicals that have been suggested to contribute to antiviral activity, namely zinc, lysine, phenol, and tannic acid. A number of fever blister sufferers also attest to the effectiveness of products containing tea tree oil and sage as fever blister remedies in the treatment of cold sores.

It is important to consult a physician before pursuing any treatment course, particularly if the fever blisters have worsened since their appearance or if they occur extremely often, as a prescription may be required.

Aside from avoiding exposure to the virus that causes herpes simplex, there is not much one can do to avoid fever blisters, but luckily, there are many options in terms of natural fever blister remedies for the sores. Remedies should focus on limiting the potential for the blister to worsen (i.e. by becoming more inflamed or infected), and relieving the discomfort the individual is experiencing as a result of the fever blisters.

Furthermore, suggested preventative measures for those prone to fever blisters include avoiding direct exposure to sunlight, as it is thought to trigger cold sores, and use of moisturizing lip balms to reduce the risk of a sore triggered by injury. As further research is done on cold sores, other methods of dealing with the painful blisters will likely emerge, but until that time, there are a number of effective fever blister remedy options for the many Americans who suffer from them.
