A note about Herbs for the Heart
In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.
In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies.
Here, it is important to note that, while there are several herbs that greatly contribute to heart health, a full spectrum approach must be taken for overall natural heart health, and to heal heart problems and heart disease. This article will cover some of the most important herbs for the heart that are directly related to the health of this very important organ.
The first of the herbs for heart health to be discussed is hawthorn berries. Hawthorn binds to, and protects heart cells. It allows heart cells to survive with less oxygen and blood, which reduces one's chance of a getting a heart attack.
In the case of a heart attack, the heart cells will heal faster with hawthorn than without. Hawthorn is one of the best herbs for the heart, and can be used on a daily basis whether or not you are diagnosed with heart disease. This is not hard to do, as the berries are tasty and can be used to make minimally processed jam, as well as hawthorn syrup.
Heart disease and poor circulation go hand in hand. Cayenne pepper is the number one herb for circulation, but it must be used in conjunction with other herbs and other natural programs. To get results, high quality cayenne pepper, and the right kind of pepper, must be used.
Another of the useful herbs for the heart is motherwort, which is a classic herb for cardiac arrhythmia. This herb is not toxic, and grows like a weed on the east coast (of the U.S.). Use the part above the ground. This herb is best used in conjunction with herbs like hawthorn and garlic.
Garlic is a powerful herb for balancing blood pressure. It will lower high blood pressure, and it will raise low blood pressure. Hypertension is one of the major risk factors involved with heart disease, and reducing high blood pressure is crucial for heart health. Use raw, high quality garlic only. Consume 3-5 cloves as a starting point when you are trying to produce healing results. Garlic is not just one of the good herbs for the heart, but it is also a great herb overall for health and vitality.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Omega-3 is one of the essential fatty acids, and as its name implies, it is essential to the body. Although not technically herbs for the heart, omega 3 fatty acids are crucial for a healthy heart, and should form an integral part of heart health nutrition or a good heart health diet.
Omega-3 serves many functions in the body, one of which is improving cholesterol and heart health. Unfortunately, most people's diet today is almost devoid of omega 3 fatty acids. The minimum amount needed for health has not been clearly established, though it could be about 1 gram per day. 2-3 grams, though, could be a better standard for good health.
Some Mediterranean cultures may consume up to 12 grams of omega-3 per day, and heart disease is said to be almost non existent in these cultures. The best sources are flax seed oil, fish oil, and several other vegetarian oils. Udo's Choice Blend Oil is one of the best products for getting your daily essential fatty acids.
You will not have a healthy heart without having a properly functioning liver. One of the jobs of the liver is to process fats and cholesterol. If your liver and gallbladder are unhealthy and impeded, your cholesterol levels will also be unhealthy.
Colon cleansing and kidney cleansing go hand-in-hand with liver detoxification. The same goes for blood cleansing. For this reason, focusing on the heart alone is usually not enough to ensure optimal heart health.
