A note about Useful Anti PMS Herbs and Herbal Remedies

In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.

In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies.

Just when you think your skin is clear, you wake up to find a huge pimple on your chin and your favorite skirt doesn’t fit you. This is the work of PMS, and it is not fun.

Many women just choose to deal with these symptoms the best they can. Other women maintain a healthy diet and get plenty of rest and exercise, in the hope that this will help them to ease their PMS symptoms. Still, other women are taking matters into their own hands and experimenting with vitamins and herbs to ease their PMS.

There are some useful anti PMS herbs that have been shown to help with this condition. Many of them fight issues from bloating to mood and everything in between. When you’re working with any combination of herbs and herbal remedies, it’s a good idea to consult with an herbalist, so that you know you’ll get the right combination of herbs to suit your needs.

Here are some of these anti PMS herbs and herbal remedies.

  • Chaste tree berry or vitex has been considered by some to be the most important herb when it comes to treating PMS symptoms. The active part of this fruit has a dopamine type of quality which helps to increase the amount of progesterone your body creates. Increased progesterone helps many women with their PMS symptoms. Unlike other herbs, this one has been studied over a period of about 16 years and is rated by doctors. Many of the study participants' doctors actually rated this herb as being 92% effective.

  • Evening primrose oil contains linoleic and gamma-linoleic acids, which have been found to be hard for women to convert while they are suffering from PMS. This PMS herb contains significant amounts of the acids and has been found to be a good way to relieve PMS symptoms. It may aid in breast tenderness, too.

  • Some people recommend the natural progesterone found in wild yam. However, this is most often used as a cream and there is dispute as to whether or not the creams actually work in the transferal of the hormone to the body. The good news is that the progesterone found in wild yam is identical to that which is in our bodies, so it may be something worth considering.

  • There are also other anti PMS herbs that you can use to reduce symptoms such as cramping, bloating and irritability. These include dong quai, which has long been used to ease cramping, irregularity and weakness that can often occur during menstruation. Licorice is thought to help raise progesterone levels and black cohosh is thought to have estrogen-like properties. Other herbs that may be helpful in helping you to sleep are valerian and kava kava, since they both act as sedatives.

  • You may also want to consider chamomile tea and other teas that contain ingredients like ginger. These have been found to relieve tension and ease the cramping and nausea that can often occur with PMS.

Remember that when you’re using PMS herbs and herbal remedies, you most likely will not experience immediate results, but over time, you will find that your premenstrual syndrome symptoms subside.

Also, don’t forget to see an herbalist or suitable natural health practitioner when you are working with any number of herbs, so as to ensure that you won’t experience any type of allergic or adverse reactions to a combination of treatments.
