A note about Avoiding Foods That Cause Acne - Possible Triggers

In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.

In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies.

How do the effects of food play a part? Quite simply, our bodies react differently to things, including different foods, and for some, certain foods could result in pimples while for others, those same foods do nothing at all. So it’s not that certain foods will cause acne on everyone per se, but there do seem to be foods that are a more common trigger for acne than others.

Thus, taking note of what you have eaten just before a break out could lead you to finding your trigger, as can cutting out some of these usual suspects of typical foods that cause acne.

While not a whole lot is known about the link between food and acne, we do know that certain foods can affect hormone levels, while others contain toxins due to over processing and such. These changes to hormone levels and excess toxins in the body commonly show up through our skin in all kinds of ways; often, excess oil that leads to breakouts, while for some, they cause an allergic reaction which can also trigger an acne breakout.

Here is a list of foods that have been noted to cause acne in a number of people. Who knows, the list alone may give you an ‘ah ha!’ moment, and make you realize straight away which ones could be the culprit in your breakouts.

The Most Common Foods That Cause Acne

  • Refined sugar
  • Refined Carbohydrates
  • Processed foods
  • Foods high in fat (fried foods especially)
  • Caffeine
  • Red Meat
  • Alcohol

While the list is made up of the things most often found to cause acne, there are a few other items that have been noted to cause skin problems and acne in others, and they are foods that are high in acid, with those containing vinegar being the most common. This is likely due to the fact that high acidic levels can mess with one’s PH balance, which in turn can result in skin issues like acne.

This is actually a peculiar one because while vinegar can have this effect on many, apple cider vinegar is actually a proven effective tool in getting rid of acne. So, for some, it may just be a matter of switching from white or malt vinegar on their salads and chips to apple cider vinegar instead.

The list of foods above doesn’t mean that you’ll need to cut all of these things out of your diet and be banished to a world without any treats or, god forbid, caffeine, just that you can learn to gauge what on the list is and isn’t contributing to your acne breakouts so that you can make some minor adjustments. As mentioned earlier, not all the foods that cause acne for others will have the same effect on you, but this is a great guideline to help get you on an acne-free road.

And, of course, if you really want to maximize your chances of curing acne naturally, you should avoid the various possible foods that cause acne as much as possible, and replace them with natural and health-promoting foods instead. As with all health conditions, other healthy lifestyle choices and habits will also help a great deal.
