What's a Healthy Vegetarian Diet?A well-planned healthy vegetarian diet is generally known to be nutritionally sufficient and even more healthful than diets which contain meat. Healthy vegetarian diets also prevent many diseases and health conditions . ( Click here to read some of my thoughts on vegetarian nutrition ) But, if you gorge yourself on soda, potato chips, french fries, chocolate ice cream, beer, vodka and other processed, sugary and deep fried foods – well, technically, it’s still a vegetarian diet, but how healthy do you think that is going to be? There are certain fundamental ‘rules’, so-to-speak, when it comes to a healthy diet. Some things are to be avoided, or at least reduced, no matter what diet one undertakes. These include excessive amounts of fats, especially saturated fats, fried foods, processed foods, refined sugar, artificial preservatives and food additives, other harmful chemicals, etc. This is no different for a healthy vegetarian diet. A vegetarian diet can be unhealthy, even harmful, if it has too many calories, too much saturated fats, or lacks certain essential nutrients. But this is true for non-vegetarian diets as well. Note that anyone on any kind of diet can develop deficiencies if he or she fails to consume a well-balanced diet within the principles of the particular diet he or she is adopting. Here are
