A note about Help for Fibromyalgia - Useful Tips, Habits and Treatments

In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.

In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies.

Fibromyalgia is considered a syndrome because there is no recognizable medical reason for its symptoms. It is rather a collection of signs, symptoms and / or medical problems that are occurring all at once within the body and yet, seem unrelated to a specific underlying cause.

Described as a constant dull aching pain, fibromyalgia's many tender points are sensitive to the slightest pressure and occur in such places as the back of the head, the top of the shoulders, between the shoulder blades, the front and sides of the neck, the upper chest, the outer elbows, the sides, the upper hips, as well as the inner knees.

It is most common in women 20 to 50 years old, and although many consider fibromyalgia a type of arthritis, it is not truly a form of the joint disease. Like arthritis, however, it is considered a rheumatic condition.

Fibromyalgia sufferers clench, tensing their muscles without even realizing it. It is their involuntary reaction to stress, which reduces blood flow to the muscles and in turn causes pain. Too little exercise slows blood flow to muscles as well, which makes it doubly important for fibromyalgia sufferers to stay on the move.

Studies indicate that stretching, walking and exercises that improve strength all help control the pain and muscle tenderness of the condition, thus providing some help for fibromyalgia.

Exercising even three times a week has been shown to improve quality of life on multiple levels, relieving fatigue and depression, as well as enabling one to feel more in control of what is taking place. Start slowly with a simple warm up routine, and as able, work into stretches that will improve range of motion and flexibility.

Many sufferers take comfort in yoga in giving help for fibromyalgia; yoga offers stretches as well as relaxation techniques.

Simply walking around the block will be a good start. Playing a round of golf or signing up at the YMCA for a water aerobics exercise class (works well for anyone overweight or obese) will also work wonders for sufferers, in giving help for fibromyalgia pain. Warm water is found to be very comforting, while the exercises get the blood flowing to muscles and tendons. Water also offers resistance, while the natural buoyancy helps support the body.

In addition, exercise boosts the production of endorphins, which will decrease pain.

A physical therapist can help those who suffer from fibromyalgia with a wide range of resources, from deep tissue massage to the moist stimulation of ice and heat packs (hydrotherapy). The latter treatment reduces swelling by constricting blood vessels and then dilating blood vessels for increased blood flow, oxygen, and other nutrients; all of which speed the elimination of toxins.

Eating a healthy diet can provide help for fibromyalgia, as will increasing serotonin through 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) replacement therapy for a decrease in pain, an aid to improved sleep, fewer tender points, less anxiety with improved moods, less morning stiffness, and increased energy. 5-HTP can also boosts melatonin levels.
