Herbs that Lower Cholesterol – the ones I would chooseA note about using Herbs to Lower CholesterolIn natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases. In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies. The following are herbs for cholesterol control which I would use (together with dietary and lifestyle changes, of course) if I had a serious cholesterol problem. My ‘chosen’ herbs to lower cholesterol are really just simple foods and beverages. Add some garlic to your diet today - chopped and raw is best. Green tea, of course, also comes with many other documented health benefits – it strengthens the immune system, protects against digestive and respiratory infections, is a powerful antioxidant, fights cancer, prevents heart disease, and last but not least, it is a wonderfully refreshing beverage. Brew some and enjoy on a daily basis! By keeping the bowels moving and absorbing clogged up waste material in them, psyllium improves colon and intestinal health and cleanliness, and this in turn prevents autointoxication and results in better overall health. Red yeast rice reduces cholesterol levels by slowing down the production of cholesterol in the body. It is so effective that some Statin prescription drugs (for cholesterol control) are made based on it! With my preference for all things natural, with little or no side effects and much higher effectiveness, I would go straight for red yeast rice over prescription drugs, anytime, no doubt about it. Please note, however, that the use of red yeast rice may not be safe for people with liver disease, kidney disease or serious infections, as well as children, nursing women and those who have had organ transplants. If you belong to one of these groups, do find out more first. Conclusion – a reminder on using herbs to lower cholesterol At the risk of sounding like a nag, I would like to end off with another reminder that while the abovementioned so-called ‘cholesterol herbs’, when used in isolation, may be able to help control your cholesterol levels, they cannot effect a permanent cure. Using cholesterol control herbs do not and cannot solve the underlying problem. Since high cholesterol is very largely a lifestyle and dietary issue, changes in those areas would be necessary. When used as part of a wider protocol which includes
dietary and lifestyle changes
, cholesterol reducing herbs would also be a lot more effective.
