History of Aloe Vera

The history of aloe vera goes back several millennia. Recorded history indicates that Ancient Egyptians were among the first to have understood and valued aloe vera for its multiple natural health benefits and healing properties. Aloe vera was considered to be one of the most effective medicinal plants and used extensively in the treatment of various health conditions.

Several hundred years later King Solomon, Alexander the Great and Marco Polo propagated the natural healing properties of aloe vera. Ancient Persians, Japanese, Russian, Indian, and Chinese healers have generously used the aloe vera plant as a form of natural medicine for over centuries.

The history of aloe vera also involved Greek and Roman physicians, who used aloe vera to treat numerous disorders. Today, we know that there are about 200 species of aloe vera cultivated across different continents.

A note about Aloe Vera History

Herbs are God and nature's gifts to us. While the use of herbs and herb remedies has brought excellent results for many people, do note that their health benefits may be limited when they are used in isolation. However, when combined with some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition, the impact on one's health will be greatly magnified.

In natural health and healing, we believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases. We also believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man’s understanding. It is thus a good idea to apply these fundamental health steps no matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem.

With the advent of the Space Age, all traditional and natural healing remedies were largely forgotten until very recently when we rediscovered the numerous nutritive and natural health benefits of aloe vera. It is only in the last few years that aloe vera has regained its lost popularity as a natural healing plant across the world and it is primarily due to its two extraordinary characteristic features; the first being its ability to work as a natural remedy in treating multiple external and internal conditions, and the second is because of its availability in numerous forms.

Throughout the history of aloe vera, the plant in its various avatars was extremely effective in curing a large number of ailments and hence was referred to as the “Plant of Immortality” and was inscribed on the tombs of pharaohs.

Based purely on its natural healing characteristics, aloe vera is also referred to as the First Aid Plant, Wand of Heaven, Silent Healer, and Miracle Plant. Scientifically, aloe vera is best known as Medicinal Aloe, and is a species of succulent plant, which originated in northern Africa.

Aloe is a derivative from the Arabic word alloch meaning shiny, bitter substances. The species name Vera means true or genuine. All in all, aloe vera is most popular for the scores of health benefits it provides.
