A note about Treatment for Lyme Disease - Medical Care and Natural Remedies

In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.

In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies.

A tick should be removed as quickly as possible because they do not begin their spread of the disease until they have been attached for about 36 hours.

Possibly one of the best ways to determine whether you have Lyme disease is a talk with a physician about your suspicions as well as your symptoms. Symptoms for Lyme disease are so similar to those that are common to everyone. Outside of the characteristic large red rash resembling a target practice bull's eye, which is not always present, initially there is nothing specific. And in early stages of the disease, blood / lab work do little to help, even providing false results in some cases.

If treatment for Lyme disease infection does not take place, the ailment can spread to joints, the nervous system, and in rare cases, the heart. Most cases of Lyme disease can be treated successfully, regardless of when it is discovered, with a 14 to 28 day dose of antibiotics.

Conventional Medical Treatment

What are some medications typically used as treatment for Lyme disease?

Aspirin or Ibuprofen is generally helpful for symptoms of arthritis type pain, also swelling, redness, feverish to the touch joints, and / or limited movement. Sometimes, repeated episodes of these flare-ups can last up to 3 to 6 months at a time if the condition is left untreated. Joints that are badly damaged by Lyme arthritis may take some time to begin healing.

Long-term antibiotics are commonly used to treat nervous system problems due to Lyme disease. Goals of treatment are to eliminate infection and the prevention of complications from the disease. Oral antibiotics are generally prescribed first, but IV antibiotics may be used if nothing else works.

Supplements, Herbs, and Natural Remedies

There are numerous supplements, herbs, as well as herbal and natural remedies which can help with treatment for Lyme disease.

Probiotic supplements, often referred to as friendly or good bacteria, should be taken as a means to regulate the digestive tract - this is essential for Lyme disease sufferers and needed to help with symptoms that develop from the antibiotics you may be using to fight the illness. They help with symptoms like nausea or diarrhea, and will help in the prevention of yeast infections (can occur with long-term antibiotic use).

Such supplements as yogurt, some types of bottled waters, or capsules have been proven good probiotic sources. There are foods that also contain probiotic activity - leeks, artichokes and all natural honey.

Some herbal supplements help improve overall health and will combat the fatigue, aches and other symptoms associated with Lyme disease. Herbal remedies helpful in treatment for Lyme disease include green tea, ginkgo biloba, Cat's claw, and garlic.

Garlic, in particular, is a versatile remedy that strengthens the immune system, kills bacteria, and helps ward off a yeast infection known as candida, which is common for those taking antibiotics as treatment for Lyme disease.

Vitamins are a natural cure for ailments such as Lyme disease, because they restore the vital nutrients the disease robs but the body needs to fight and heal. Begin with vitamins B-complex, C (lemons, limes, grapefruits and oranges), and A. Vitamin C is a great immune system booster.

Incorporate such things as blue-green algae and flaxseed oil for their omega 3 fatty acids. Drink plenty of pure filtered water and exercise to flush any toxins - these, too, are important steps in holistic treatment for Lyme disease.
