Detoxification Fasting Diet - What it is and How to Do it

Have you heard of something called a detoxification fasting diet?

At some point in trying to live a healthy and natural lifestyle, you have probably come across such diets. Yet, what is it, how does it work, and why should you try it?

This dietary program is not a typical diet in that it is short-term and does not have to be carried out for weeks or months. In fact, you couldn't fast for very long, or else you would suffer from some unhealthy consequences. Indeed, not everyone is suited to go on a prolonged fasting protocol.

So why should you use a detoxification fasting diet?

In essence, detoxifying your body is a way of recharging and renewing it. It's a natural method of cleaning out the toxins and starting over afresh. In fact, your body detoxifies naturally every day. Your body eliminates harmful toxins through your kidneys, skin, colon, and liver.

Unfortunately, your body simply can't handle all of the toxins that you come in contact with on a daily basis. Foreign items such as chemicals, synthetic substances, and pollutants can get into your skin and into your body and eventually find their way into your body fat.

Another good reason to cleanse using a detoxification fasting diet is if you feel bloated or are suffering from low energy. Perhaps you have been eating unhealthy foods lately. Or, maybe you have been taking a lot of medication recently and you still feel it in your system.

The substances that you take in during a detoxification fasting diet can vary depending on which diet you choose to follow. Some people argue that you should only consume water during this period. Others say that it is acceptable to drink juice and eat healthy foods. We will take a look at two popular methods that can be used to cleanse out your system to give you an idea of the one you might like to use for yourself.

Water Fasting

For water fasting, it is necessary to consume nothing but water for three days. This means that as soon as you wake up on Friday morning, you would start your day out with a glass of water and carry on with nothing but water until the following Monday morning. Throughout those three days, you would need to continue drinking plenty of water, as well as ensure that you stay fairly close to bathroom facilities as you will need to dispel that water.

For some people, it helps if the water is cold. Others do not have a preference. However, since you won't be consuming any other type of food or beverage, you must remember to drink the water throughout the day so that you do not become dehydrated.

Fresh Foods and Juices

Another popular detoxification fasting diet consists of a little more than just water. This one actually begins on Friday night when you start out with a simple green salad. On Saturday morning, you start your day with vitamin C and your favorite fruit juice.

You continue consuming water or fruit juice every 90 minutes to 2 hours throughout the day. You shouldn't feel hungry, since you will be consuming calories, as well as taking in flavor, unlike what you would be doing with the water-only diet. For dinner, you might eat brown rice, which has a lot of fiber, with vegetables. This detoxification fasting diet should be continued through Sunday evening.

The detoxification fasting diet is a natural and healthy way to release toxins from your system without using laxatives or other forms of medication. However, it must be used with care. Ideally, you should not continue any fasting past three days unless you are being supervised by your health care practitioner, or if you are experienced in this area. Serious health concerns can arise if you are not supervised; therefore, it should be done responsibly.
