How can a fasting cleanse protocol improve your health?

Each day we leave the house, we are exposed to a slew of pollutants, pesticides and allergens in the external environment.

And that does not include many chemicals we put ourselves in contact with, including the preservatives, food additives or stabilizers in the foods we eat and the drinks we choose for hydration; the chemicals in our choices of fabrics to sleep with, sit on or wear; the chemicals in the products we wash our clothes with; the chemicals in other household agents we use, such as insecticides, varnishes and paint; as well as chemicals in personal care products we use on our hair, faces and bodies.

Like bacteria or viruses, just because you cannot see them, does not mean they are not there. Within our cells, you can find anything from dyes to pesticides to disinfectants to drug residue. What a disconcerting thought.

Fortunately, a fasting cleanse can help, as it brings the body into a "detoxifying mode".

A healthy colon is essential for a healthy life. If we lived in a bubble and never encountered another person, place or thing, our colons would stay in tip top shape - but who can do that? Therefore, there is a need to keep the colon in health. For those of us who are not sure if we are in need of a fasting cleanse or not, we can follow these few guidelines.

Basically, there are seven sure signs we can watch for in the vigil over our colons. The first one is a feeling of tired or sluggishness whether we have had eight hours of sleep or not. The inability to lose weight though proper calories and / or food choices are followed is number two.

Pale skin with dark spots or acne is number three. Having diarrhea or irregular bowel movements is number four, while having movements that are like a thick paste is number five. Number six is having an odor or bad breath though good hygiene is in order, and the last one is frequent illness.

If you have some or all of these symptoms, a fasting cleanse could be in order.

Just by living, our lungs are filled with 20 million foreign particles every day we breathe. This includes such things as lead, carbon monoxide, mercury, DDT, PCBs, x-rays and / or nitrates, just to name a few. If you make it to middle age with no serious health issues, you have done well, as resistance to disease breaks down as toxins accumulate within the cells.

Another reason to undertake a fasting cleanse program.

A frightening thought is that our blood can become overloaded with toxic sludge too. This is the blood that nourishes not just our bodies, but our brains as well. The skin, the largest organ of the body, benefits greatly with fasting, as does the gastro-intestinal tract, the cells and lymph system, the liver, the gallbladder, the lungs, as well as the kidneys.

Detoxifying is a good way to start a diet, bring the holidays to a close, or bring our systems back into balance. A good way to cleanse is a short fast.

A fasting cleanse protocol stops everything coming into the body, which gives it time to rest (not needing energy and resources for digestion, for example), and thus detoxify, heal and rejuvenate. This should last from 3 to 10 days, depending on your needs.

Some people cannot go even a few days without food (medical reasons), but juice is acceptable if necessary. This can consist of whole fruit juices, or a homemade vegetable juice to help rid your system of toxins (one suggestion - 6 tomatoes, 1/2 green pepper, 2 carrots, 3 scallions, 1/2 bunch fresh spinach, 2 celery stalks with tops, 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice, and 1/2 cup parsley).

Broadly speaking, though, a mixture of different fresh, organic vegetable and fruit juices should do the trick for a fasting cleanse protocol. Some people do only water, but that comes with a much higher level of difficulty.
