A note about Fibromyalgia TCM TreatmentIn natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases. In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. Taking these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of certain holistic remedies. Generically, any kind of pain is viewed as a presence of a blockage as per TCM and fibromyalgia is defined as Painful Obstruction syndrome. The main causes of muscle syndromes such as fibromyalgia are thought to be environmental such as pathogenic influences of wind, cold, and dampness, which weakens the body’s immunity and defenses, and takes root in the muscles, tendons, and joints. This causes obstruction and pain. Stiffness is also a by-product of the same. The accumulation of these pathogens leads to heat generation in the affected area which manifests as symptoms of inflammation and pain. The factors that predispose a person to such syndromes are stress, genetic predisposition, deficient diet, insufficient exercise and insufficient Qi energy. TCM has a threefold strategy for treating Muscle Bi syndrome. Fibromyalgia TCM Treatment The comprehensive fibromyalgia TCM treatment plan is to resolve the muscle syndrome by expelling the imbalances in wind, cold and damp energies accumulated in the body. TCM also treats any underlying factors that are contributing to the development of the muscle syndrome. In addition, it provides symptomatic relief by resolving the pain. TCM therapy uses all three modalities, namely acupuncture, herbal medicine and Qigong (or Chi Gong) for the treatment of muscle syndrome such as fibromyalgia. Mostly, all three therapies are used simultaneously or in combination. Acupuncture is mainly used to alleviate pain, herbal medicine is used to bring about balance in wind, cold, damp muscle syndrome factors and imbalances in the body, and Qigong is used to provide exercise and buffer the patient emotionally and psychologically.
