A note about Infertility TCM Treatment - Traditional Chinese Medicine and Infertility

In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.

In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. Taking these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of certain holistic remedies.

Traditional Chinese Medicine and Infertility Causes

There are many causes that are considered to be reasons that may cause infertility and TCM therapy takes them all into consideration before arriving at an accurate diagnosis.

Imbalances in Chi or Qi energy, imbalances in the body meridians, imbalances in the fundamental substances, and disorders in the Zang Fu are considered as contributors to infertility.

Blood stasis and phlegm stasis, which can disrupt reproductive capabilities, are also viewed as common causes for infertility. These disharmonies usually result from stress, deficient diet, sexual intemperance, emotional conflicts and disharmonies, and other constitutional factors.

The broad categories in which these causes are segmented are as follows:

  • Kidney Yang Deficiency - As per TCM, men exhibit signs and symptoms of this syndrome via impotence, sensation of cold in the scrotum; women report prolonged menstrual cycles or amenorrhea.

  • Kidney Yin Deficiency - As per TCM, men report signs and symptoms like premature ejaculation; in women short menstrual cycles, and other syndrome-like symptoms.

  • Liver Qi Stagnation - As per TCM, symptoms include depression, irritability, the tendency to anger easily, and distending pain or discomfort in the abdomen or ribcage.

  • Blood Stasis - As per TCM, symptoms noticed are sharp and stabbing pain, emotional disharmony and conflicts, stress, tanned facial complexion, and dry rough skin.

  • Phlegm - As per TCM signs noticed are obesity, heaviness, feelings of "unclear” thought, expectoration of phlegm, and dizziness/ palpitation.

    Infertility TCM Treatment

Infertility TCM treatment emphasizes herb and acupuncture formulas to rectify this imbalance. TCM may be used alone or in combination with western conventional medicine.

Unless the cause is a congenital or structural problem, TCM may provide a remedy via herbal medicine and acupuncture.

Qigong (or Chi Gong) is seldom used to cure infertility per se, though qigong exercises may be used to address stress, anxiety and other symptoms associated with infertility.
