A note about Flu in Children - Prevention and Natural Remedies

In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.

In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies.

Just because the flu needs to take its course doesn’t mean that you can’t do something to make the road a little easier, though. There are various remedies available that are all-natural that can help your child feel better while their body fights the nasty flu. There are also some easy things that you can do to help prevent the flu in children.

We’ll start with preventing the flu, and that begins with a strong immune system. Making sure your kids get all of the nutrients they need can be hard, especially if you’ve got a picky eater on your hands. Incorporating fresh fruits and vegetables into their diet is the best way to make sure they’re getting everything they need for a healthy immune system, and with some crafty kid-friendly recipes, it may prove easier than you think.

One great and sneaky way to get some fruit into them is to try and make it seem like as much of a treat as possible - throwing a few different fruits and berries into the blender and making into a puree is a good one. Pour it into a small container and pop it in the freezer for a few minutes until it’s cool and almost slushy and they won’t even know it’s a healthy snack!

And when all else fails, there are dozens of multi-vitamins made for children that are so tasty that they won’t mind taking them.

Along with a balanced diet rich in vitamins and nutrients, making sure they wash their hands regularly is a must for preventing the flu in children. Buying a natural soap or hand sanitizer made for kids - like those with a cartoon character on the bottle - is a great way to get them excited about washing their hands, and it won’t be long before they’re in the habit of doing so without being nagged.

Now that you have an idea of how to prevent the flu in children, we can move on to a couple of natural remedies to help them deal with the symptoms of the flu should they get sick.

Homeopathic options are not only a wonderful and effective way to treat the flu in children naturally, but these remedies are also becoming easier to find. Most drugstores now carry homeopathic remedies for children that are clearly labeled to indicate what they treat.

The remedies your grandmother told you about are also great. Think of how much better you felt after drinking that warm cup of the lemon and honey drink she used to make, or how much better you were able to sleep after she rubbed some eucalyptus or mint oil on your chest to help with your stuffy nose. These natural remedies have worked for centuries and are kid-safe, so that you can make your children feel better just as you did.
