A note about Graves Disease Symptoms - Common Signs of the Condition

In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.

In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies.

Luckily, Graves' disease is not usually life-threatening. However, it can cause some symptoms that are not very pleasant. It usually affects women who typically start noticing signs of it in their 20's.

Some common Graves disease symptoms that you might experience with this disease which can affect your mental health include irritability and anxiety. These can be worsened by fatigue and difficulty sleeping, which are also symptoms of Graves' disease.

Other common Graves disease symptoms include sensitivity to heat, a rapid or irregular heartbeat, increase in perspiration, a slight tremor in your fingers or hand, weight loss, decreased sexual drive, shortness of breath, weakness, muscle wasting, increased tearing in the eyes, abnormal breast enlargement in men, double vision, hair loss, brittle nails and brittle hair, a change in your menstrual cycle, and frequent bowel movements, including diarrhea.

There are even some Graves disease symptoms that can affect your eyes and your eyesight. These are known as Graves' opthalmopathy. Occasionally, the eyeballs will seem to bulge out past their exopthalmos, or their protective orbits. This happens when the tissues and muscles that are located behind your eyes swell and thus force your eyes out further. When your eyes are pushed out, your face can experience dryness. People who smoke are 5 times more likely to develop this condition than non-smokers.

Other symptoms of Graves' ophthalmopathy can include feeling as though there is grit or sand behind your eyes, excessive tearing, inflamed or reddened eyes, eyelid swelling, sensitivity to light, and the widening of the space between your eyelids. Less common symptoms are limited eye movements, double vision, blurred vision, reduced vision, and ulcers located on the cornea.

It is also possible to have swelling of your skin, as well as reddening, although this is an uncommon symptom of the disease. When it occurs, it is referred to as Graves' dermopathy.

One complication that can arise from Grave's disease is called a thyroid storm. This is a very serious complication and can lead to kidney failure, liver failure, or even heart failure. It usually has a quick onset and can be caused by stress. Some of the signs of a thyroid storm include delirium, vomiting, high blood pressure, rapid heart rate, high fever, and even coma. If it is left untreated, then it could become fatal.

However, for the most part, Grave's disease is not considered to be a serious ailment. With proper treatment of the Graves disease symptoms, it can be controlled. In fact, a lot of times, it is the symptoms that are treated and not necessarily the disease itself.

Learning natural ways to control excessive perspiration, strengthening brittle hair and nails, improving your energy and quality of sleep, and administering to your bowel movements can all help make the disease affect your life in a less stressful manner.
