Calculate your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate), which will tell you how many calories you need to aim for based on your age, since it differs as the years go by. Here’s how to do this:

Take your desired weight in pounds and multiply it by 11 if you’re a female and 12 if you’re a male. Next, subtract 2 percent for every 10 years of your age over age twenty. Next, add 10 percent to represent calories needed to perform your basic daily functions. The number that you get is the minimum number of calories that you need to consume in order to keep your metabolism working so that you’re best able to burn body fat. Higher than you thought, isn’t it? Hang on a second, though, because calories, as you know, is only part of the game plan.

Now that you have an idea of the amount of calories you should be aiming for, it’s time to talk exercise. Your aim now should be to burn as many calories as you can each day and, as mentioned, this doesn’t need to mean hours spent at the gym or “working out”. Some tweaking of your lifestyle can be the key when it comes to figuring out how to burn body fat.

Think of all the things you do that burn calories and think about doing more of them. Yes, you even burn calories sleeping but this doesn’t mean sleeping your life away to burn a few. Think about the everyday things you do that burn the most calories, like walking or cleaning - the more you do them, the more calories you burn, and that’s a great start.
