A note about Indigestion Symptoms - Common Signs of Stomach Troubles

In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.

In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies.

Indigestion is often a sign of another problem - for example, acid reflux, gallbladder disease or ulcers, and not a disorder in its own right. It is defined as the inability to or difficulty to digest stomach contents, and is described as a feeling of fullness and / or discomfort that usually starts just after beginning to eat. It can be accompanied by pain, burning or bloating in the region of the upper stomach.

Digestive issues and indigestion symptoms are associated with a fast-paced lifestyle - eating too much, too often or too quickly; eating high-fat foods or overly sugared processed foods; drinking too much alcohol; and / or smoking.

The signs and symptoms of indigestion also go hand in hand with emotional upset, stress, fatigue, or overeating during stressful times or situations. Many people who have been diagnosed with anxiety disorders also suffer indigestion.

People of both sexes and all ages are affected by indigestion, which is how common it is. The risk is increased by the excess use of alcohol, drugs (stomach irritants such as aspirin), or other abnormal conditions in or affecting the digestive tract, such as an ulcer, or emotional stressors that have triggered anxiety or depression.

Indigestion symptoms experienced by those who suffer from the ailment are fullness during meals, to a point they are unable to finish in any sort of comfort. After the meal, there is a lingering fullness, as if it may never end. There is almost always epigastric pain in the region above the naval (just below breastplate), ranging from mild to moderate to severe, which can or may not be accompanied by an unpleasant burning.

Many of the symptoms associated with indigestion are common to a variety of other physical possibilities, such as food sensitivities and allergies as well as more serious systemic disorders such as ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), diverticulitis, acid reflux, and other gastrointestinal disturbances.

These indigestion symptoms and signs can be present by themselves, or in combination with others - bad breath and / or acid taste in the mouth, belching, bloating (full feeling to an extreme), flatulence (gas), nausea or vomiting, growling stomach, heartburn, burning in stomach or upper abdomen, as well as pain.

There are times when a person has indigestion for no apparent reason at all. This is known as functional or non-ulcer dyspepsia.

Though not always the case, indigestion and indigestion symptoms can often be prevented by changes in lifestyle, including diet and stress levels, as well as alcohol and tobacco use. Consider specifics such as avoiding foods that are spicy or fatty (or fried), or not taking medications such as aspirin on an empty stomach.

It is equally important to eat slowly, keeping several small meals relaxed and leisurely. Keep your weight down by practicing self control, with a good exercise regime, and through practices such as yoga, which will help with relaxation as well.

You would do well to adopt a high fiber diet, which will help improve regularity and will help to boost your natural immune system. Lastly, stay hydrated.
