A note about Types of Chiropractic

In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.

In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. Taking these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of certain holistic remedies.

  • Straight - This type of chiropractic treatment is based on the concept that misalignment, which is also referred to as subluxation, is responsible for various health conditions or diseases that patients suffer from. According to this theory, a misaligned spine or vertebral disc exerts pressure on the nerve or nerve root, arising from that area in the spine, which results in pain and various health conditions. In straight chiropractic, these misalignments are set right and the nerves are relieved off the pressure, thus triggering healing in the patient.

  • Mixer - Another of the types of chiropractic is mixer chiropractic treatment. Here, chiropractors employ a combination of treatment plans in addition to regular chiropractic spine maneuvering techniques. Mixer chiropractors could also use the aid of various diagnostic tools including ultrasound and other techniques to confirm disorder. The additional treatment plans include acupuncture, naturopathic treatment, diet and nutrition, etc, in addition to the regular maneuvering the spine to help set right subluxations.

  • Reform - Here, chiropractors give a lot of importance to regular medicine by administering pharmacological drugs, etc, with minimum regular chiropractic treatment. In this category, chiropractic is used extensively to treat problems related to the musculoskeletal disorders.

    In addition to the above, there are two broad types of chiropractic care administered to patients.

  • Symptom or pain-relief chiropractic care - In this plan, attention is focused on relieving the patients from acute aches and pains related to misalignment of the spine. This is a relatively short-term relief providing treatment that concentrates on helping the patient overcome pain. Here, chiropractors use various other treatment modalities like electro stimulation, TENS units, acupuncture, and laser to provide pain relief. If license permits, depending upon state and location, chiropractors can prescribe pharmacological drugs for pain relief.

  • Traditional or corrective chiropractic care - Here, a lot of emphasis is given to correcting or fixing the misalignment or subluxation of the spine in an attempt to provide relief from pain. The belief here is, once the spine is structurally aligned to its normal position and stops compressing the nerve or nerve root arising from that location in the spine, the pain and other associated symptoms will cease.
