A note about Yoga Benefits on some Health Conditions and Issues

In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.

In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. Taking these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of certain holistic remedies.

In addition, yoga is also reported to benefit mood changes, quality of life, mental acuity, strength and flexibility.

Further, it has been reported that yoga benefits certain specific health conditions.

Hypertension and Yoga

Studies have shown that yoga provides therapeutic and prophylactic benefits with regard to the control and cure of hypertension.

In one study, small reductions in blood pressure were noted after three weeks of daily yoga, and in another study, one hour of daily yoga for 11 weeks, showed significant improvement in hypertension levels (where the study group continued with prescribed medication as well as yoga sessions).

In another quantitative study, systolic blood pressure fell from 142 to 126 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure decreased from 86 to 75 mmHg after 40 days of yoga sessions.

These studies suggest that yoga benefits hypertensive conditions. Though it may not be medically prudent to stop taking prescribed hypertension medication on starting yoga, it still would be worthwhile to commence a disciplined regimen of yoga to combat hypertension, and achieve higher states of stress-free living.

Asthma

Yoga is reported to have a beneficial influence on reducing the symptoms of asthma.

Carpal tunnel syndrome

Yoga significantly improves grip strength, providing tremendous relief to individuals suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome.

Yoga as mood enhancer

From the very first class, yoga practitioners have reported decrease in tension, fatigue and anger, among both men and women.

Improved health, wellbeing, energy, flexibility and strength

In a study conducted on 135 men and women in the age group of 65 - 85, the subjects participated in six months of Hatha yoga classes and reported improvements in quality of life, well being, overall health, energy levels, in addition to better balance and flexibility.

Conclusion

To summarize, regular practice of yoga does reduce hypertension, obesity, diabetes and various other conditions and complications.

Yoga benefits health in many ways. It effectively reduces stress, provides muscular relaxation, improved blood supply to muscles, increased glucose uptake by muscles and other related benefits.

Yoga also reduces adrenaline, noradrenalin and cortisol in the blood which are the stress hormones. Reduction of stress is the key to diminishing chances of developing various illnesses of the modern age. Hence, yoga provides both therapeutic and prophylactic uses to its disciplined practitioners.
