A note about Acupuncture for Migraines Treatment

In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.

In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. Taking these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of certain holistic remedies.

Establishing the area and nature of pain

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and acupuncture, headaches and migraines can be effectively treated by restoring the balance of energy flow or qi in certain channels or organs of the human body.

Initial assessment by an acupuncturist will involve determining the exact location and position of the headache, example if it is in the temple region, or behind the eyes etc. Similarly, the nature of pain will be established, whether the pain is sharp and shooting in nature or it is a dull and throbbing pain etc.

Determining the blockage of qi

Based on the answers provided by the patient to the questions asked in the above paragraph, the acupuncturist will be able to determine the exact region where the energy flow is blocked and the trigger points that will need to be manipulated to release the energy blockage. This is the next step of acupuncture for migraines treatment.

Acupuncture for Headaches Treatment

Depending upon disruption in energy flow and balance of energy levels, acupuncturists will customize and develop a treatment plant that is best suited for that particular patient in at attempt to release the energy, eliminate the cause, and thereby heal or cure the migraine or headache problem.

The duration and number of acupuncture sessions will differ depending upon the degree of energy imbalance and blockage. Typically, acupuncture treatment will last for a period of 10 to 30 minutes and patients might be required to attend two or three sessions per week. Most symptoms are relieved during the first session but chronic conditions might take longer than one or two sessions to eliminate the underlying cause.

Acupuncture for Migraines Treatment

Migraines are caused by vasodilation of cranial blood capillaries. These capillaries will then increase the pressure exerted on the cerebral cortex, thus this pressure makes the migraine patient experience the splitting or exploding pain.

Experienced acupuncturists are of the belief that this vasodilation in the cranial capillaries is the human body's way of counter balancing the decrease in blood flow to the brain, because of tension.

Hence, acupuncture for migraines treatment should concentrate on the main cause of the migraine and provide relief from tension and maximize blood flow to the capillaries in the brain. If the brain senses that the blood flow to its capillaries is becoming normal, the capillaries will inevitably stop dilating. Once the dilation stops, they will actually begin to constrict and come back to their normal size.

This form of focused acupuncture for migraines treatment will ensure decrease vasodilation and provide the brain with increased blood and the patient will experience a reduction in pain by its own mechanism of vasoconstriction.

Thus, by employing acupuncture treatment for migraines, one will not only fix the cause, but eliminate the recurrence of migraines.
