A note about Medical Benefits of Aromatherapy

In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.

In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. Taking these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of certain holistic remedies.

For example, tarragon or clove essential oil predominantly has a harmonizing effect on the nervous system and is known to soothe anxiety disorders.

Some essential oils will induce relaxation; some have pain relieving effects and so forth.

There are other essential oils that will adapt to whatever the body requires - they possess self-calibrating properties that helps them adapt to the condition. These are adaptogenic essential oils and examples are lemon and lavender.

How are the medical benefits of aromatherapy harnessed? The key feature of essential oils is that they access the human system via inhalation or absorption.

They are certainly beneficial, but have no side effects if used in the prescribed manner. It is no wonder then that aromatherapy is offered as a complementary route to wellbeing and good health.

Which parts of plants are used to obtain the medical benefits of aromatherapy? The components used in aromatherapy for healing and relaxation are often essential oils that are extracted from aromatic plants, flowers, leaves, seeds, bark, and fruits. The process of extraction of essential oils involves steam distillation.

The types of uses that these oils are often put to include for the purpose of holistic treatment, where the oils are used for massages for the effective treatment of emotional blocks and physical disorders.

Next, these essential oils are also used for clinical purposes and used as a supplement to western medicinal treatment plans and therapies.

Thirdly, aromatherapy is also used for aesthetic purposes where the fragrance is evoked by special burners and diffusers in the homes, offices, and other environments, or added to bath water.

Aromatherapy is found to work most beneficially in the treatment of minor disorders and ailments such as digestive disorders, stress and anxiety disorders and skin ailments.

Essential oils like tea-tree oil are used for antiseptic healing properties.

Conventional medicine is sceptical that aromatherapy can cure chronic major illnesses and does not support its use as a form of singular treatment and medication, as a substitute to conventional medicine.

Thus, in this regard, the medical benefits of aromatherapy and potency of aromatherapy remedies may be somewhat limited. Aromatherapy is, however, acknowledged as a powerful remedy for alleviating the psychological stress issues that manifest in patients suffering from major diseases.
