A note about Physical Symptoms of Stress

In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.

In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies.

But, there comes a point where average daily stresses can get to be too much. When you add the stress of your morning to a day where your boss isn’t happy with your work or you’re facing a layoff and an overdue bill, then you might be struggling to deal with too much stress.

Many people are now finding that they have to struggle with these and more stress factors every day. Every time they turn around it seems like there is something else that needs their immediate attention. After a while, dealing with prolonged stress can cause your body to develop physical and emotional symptoms.

Physical Symptoms of Stress

So, what are some physical symptoms of stress?

Research has shown that dealing with continuous stress can put you at greater risk for problems with the heart, as well as potential digestive issues. This is because stressors in life cause the human “fight or flight” response. It’s an instinctive form of self-preservation, but it was never meant for long term use.

When your body faces stress, it releases extra hormones into the body that ordinarily aren’t used. In short bursts, these hormones are beneficial. When they are released for a long time, however, they cause physical symptoms and issues.

Here are some typical physical symptoms of stress.

  • Headaches. Many people who deal with lots of daily stress suffer from tension headaches.

  • More illnesses such as the cold or flu. Extreme amounts of stress lower the body’s immunity, so if you’re getting sick frequently, it could have to do with how much stress you’re carrying around with you.

  • Inability to sleep or sleep well.

  • Little or no libido. Many times when we suffer from stress, the last thing we want to think about is getting cozy with our partners. Stress makes you tired, perhaps too tired to make time for your partner.

  • Skin problems are also possible physical symptoms of stress. For many women in particular, this may mean the development of acne.

  • Aches and pains. Muscle and joint pain is also commonly associated with stress.

  • Digestive problems can result in some people, which can lead to a reduced or increased appetite.

  • Being constantly tired.

Emotional and Behavioral Symptoms of Stress

The symptoms of stress don’t just stop with what we experience physically. Unfortunately, other than the physical symptoms of stress, there are many other emotional and behavioral symptoms that can manifest themselves when you are under extreme pressure.

  • Increased intake of caffeine and alcohol, as well as smoking.

  • Anxiety and mood swings. Often, these mood swings include depression and crying as well as anger and paranoia.

  • Inability to make decisions and / or concentrate.

  • Lack of interest in anything other than work.

There are other emotional symptoms of stress as well. In some very extreme cases, a person might begin to abuse drugs or overeat. Many people become very irritable with everyone and lose their sense of humor when they are dealing with extreme stress.

When you’re struggling to cope with stress, it can seem like the world is falling down, but you need to remember that there are ways that you can cope with your stress and even reduce your stress levels. Don’t let your life be ruined by stress; it will always be there, so it’s up to you to learn how to cope with it and to improve your quality of life.

With better stress management, the emotional, behavioral and physical symptoms of stress which you experience will slowly go away.
