A note about Shingles on the Face - Symptoms and Treatment Tips

In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.

In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies.

So what causes shingles on the face, and what do they look like?

Although shingles is a derivative of chickenpox, it can actually be more painful and cause more harm and damage than the childhood version of the disease. There is no set reason why shingles appears in adults, but it could be due to a weakened immune system.

The shingles usually starts with a low-grade fever which might be accompanied by chills and headache. After a few days, a rash will more than likely develop. At first, it could look like small pink bumps, but they will almost certainly turn red over time. They can also be filled with clear fluid and look like small, or even large, blisters. They will be itchy and even painful to the touch, and you might feel a burning sensation where the rash exists.

Of course, sometimes, shingles occurs without a rash emerging, but this is rare. You will still have the pain and tenderness associated with the shingles, however, and you might also have the fever and headache.

For the most part, shingles on the face affects the area around the eyes and nose. They can even affect the cornea. This is referred to as zoster keratitis. This is a very serious matter and can actually lead to blindness if it is not properly treated right away, since it can scar the cornea.

When the rash first starts developing, it might form in a band and gradually get larger over time. You will probably notice the pain before the actual rash appears. This is because the rash is traveling along the nerve route and the nerves are probably already affected before the physical manifestation of the rash has the chance to appear.

Once the rash goes away, you might still notice that there is a pain where the rash once was. This is because the trigeminal nerve, the nerve that operates on the face, was affected during the outbreak, and it takes a while for the nerve to return to normal.

For shingles on the face, it is important not to pick at the rash. Like chickenpox, or any other kind of bump or blister that can appear on the face, there is always a chance of scarring. In addition, if you start noticing the rash getting closer to your eyes, or you begin feeling pain in your eyes, then you should see your physician immediately. You certainly don't want to mess around with your eyesight.

There are some natural treatments that can help alleviate some of the symptoms associated with shingles. However, when dealing with shingles on the face, it's important that you also seek professional assistance, too, since there are other organs, like your eyes, that can be affected. From there, it is usually okay to use natural health treatments to help with the pain and itching.
