A note about Vitamin for Psoriasis Relief and Healing
In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.
In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies.
Although for many people, the first instinct is to apply creams and lotions to the affected skin, these types of substances are likely to be far too harsh and to irritate the skin further.
Fortunately for individuals with psoriasis, there is a wonderful natural alternative in the form of vitamin therapy. Through the incorporation of certain vitamins into one's diet (or through supplementation), psoriasis can be healed naturally and effectively.
The first vitamin for psoriasis relief to be discussed is vitamin D.
A great deal of recent research has focused on the ability of vitamin D to heal psoriasis. As many people with psoriasis know, sunlight is amazing in its ability to heal psoriasis and improve its symptoms.
Due to the fact that sunlight stimulates vitamin D production, it is now thought its role in psoriasis relief may have to do with a mechanism related to vitamin D receptors in the skin. Researchers have not yet been able to pinpoint the precise cause of psoriasis, but we do know that the inflammation and irritation by which it is characterized is caused by overproduction of skin cells.
More specifically, the psoriasis plaques are areas where skin cells have accumulated. It is believed that vitamin D signals the skin cells to stop the overproduction, thereby relieving the development of psoriasis, and, over time, reducing the plaques that have already developed. This explains how this vitamin for psoriasis relief works.
Some experts suggest applying vitamin D ointments directly to the skin to get its benefits. Another option is to take this vitamin for psoriasis relief in supplement form.
Of course, often the best and most efficient method of vitamin intake is to incorporate the vitamin into one's diet. Some excellent dietary sources of vitamin D are: salmon, tuna fish, milk (preferably nonfat), mackerel, cereals fortified with vitamin D, eggs, Swiss cheese and pudding made with vitamin D fortified milk.
Another potentially useful vitamin for psoriasis relief is vitamin A, which has also been implicated in psoriasis healing.
In particular, one form of vitamin A is available by prescription and is believed to induce skin cells to grow to maturity, thereby reducing the rapid overproduction of skin cells that is found in psoriasis. However, there is some disagreement as to whether or not vitamin A in itself could be helpful to psoriasis sufferers.
Nonetheless, vitamin A is important to many bodily processes and incorporating more of it into one's diet is most likely a good idea for most people. Some foods which provide vitamin A are dark green / yellow vegetables and fruits, such as broccoli, spinach, turnip greens, carrots, squash, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, cantaloupe, and apricots. Animal sources of this vitamin for psoriasis relief include liver, milk, butter, cheese, and whole eggs.
The inflammatory nature of psoriasis makes it especially suited to natural treatment. Though we are still learning about the possibilities of vitamin D in treating this condition, numerous studies have suggested the rather remarkable benefits of its use in treating psoriasis.
Vitamin A also makes a great addition to any natural psoriasis treatment. Affecting psoriasis from the inside is a wonderful treatment option, as it is a condition that originates internally, so dealing with it in a congruent manner, using a vitamin for psoriasis relief or two, is very likely to be effective in producing relief.
