A note about Chronic and Recurrent Yeast Infections - Causes, Remedies and Prevention Tips
In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.
In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies.
There are several things that can make your body vulnerable to recurrent infections. Diabetes and abnormal glucose intolerance or even a resistance to insulin can certainly lead to yeast infections that won't seem to go away.
Pregnancy, which can upset the acidity levels in your vaginal region, can also make yeast infections more likely. People who are on antibiotics for long periods of time tend to notice more yeast infections that don't seem to want to go away, mostly because the antibiotics destroy the good bacteria in your body, which can upset the yeast balance.
Suppositories that contain boric acid have proven effective in treating recurrent yeast infections that contain candida glabrata and candida albicans. These have been proven to be just as effective as other medications such as Diflucan and Terazole.
You can also do your part in preventing the yeast infections from occurring in the first place. Eating plenty of yogurt that contains lactobacillus acidophillus cultures could be useful in preventing bacterial vaginitis and could be useful in preventing yeast infections as well.
If you are taking antibiotics, then you should also consider taking Probiotics, too, as these can help introduce the "good" bacteria back into your system. In the long run, this will help keep recurrent yeast infections at bay.
In addition, you should avoid wearing clothing that is tight around your genitals. This includes pantyhose, tight jeans or pants, and tight underwear. Wearing cotton fabrics which allow your skin to "breathe" is advisable.
Reducing the amount of sugar, yeast, and refined flour is also suggested, as all of these things can work in encouraging yeast to develop. When you have recurrent yeast infection, it is best practice to avoid them altogether until the yeast infection has cleared up.
If you are taking birth control pills, then you might want to consider another form of birth control, as oral contraceptives can lead to chronic yeast infections.
It is important to keep in mind that, sometimes, vaginal irritation can be confused with yeast infections. Ensure that you are actually having a yeast infection and not some sort of allergic reaction to sanitary napkins, tampons, or even washing detergent, before you start treating your symptoms as yeast.
One of the best things that you can do is keep a diary of your infections. When you start feeling one, write down anything that you were doing in the previous 48 hours. Make a list of food that you ate, any toiletries that you used, any bowel movements that you might have had, or any sexual encounters that you experienced. This can help you determine whether or not there is a pattern to your recurrent yeast infections. That, on its own, might help you figure out what is causing the infections and what you might be able to do to control them in the future.
