Hip arthritis is also referred to as wear and tear arthritis because it is a result of the degeneration of the joints cartilage that can happen over time from, well, wear and tear. One of the most common contributors to this wear and tear is excess weight, because it puts extra strain on the joints, eventually causing all of the cartilage to wear away and leave the bone exposed inside the joint. This, of course, then causes pain.
Along with excess weight, some of the other contributing factors to arthritis in hips can include injuries to the bone and joint, like fractures, and in some cases even genetics, as it has been shown that a family history of hip problems can play a part.

Anti-inflammatory medications are often recommended, but it should be noted that regular use of these medications can wreak havoc on your stomach and cause anything from mild to severe discomfort and in some cases even colitis or ulcers. The best remedies and treatment options are not those that offer a temporary fix like medications, but rather those that help alleviate as much stress off of the hip joints as possible. These things include losing any excess weight, using a cane to help keep some pressure off when youll be doing a lot of walking, and learning exercises that help improve strength and range of motion while not placing too much strain on the joint.
As far as exercise is concerned, you may find it strange that it has been proposed as a possible remedy. It is definitely a big misconception that exercise would be off limits with arthritis in hips, but being inactive often results in weakness and stiffness which only makes things worse. The right exercises can help you to manage pain better than any other remedy.
Even though the management of arthritis in hips is possible with the right approach, doing all you can to prevent it before it happens is a better way to go, and that means keeping your muscles and bones as healthy as you can through a well balanced diet rich in vitamins and calcium, along with regular exercise.
And thats something that you can start doing right now. So, before brushing off arthritis or hip problems as something that only happens to old people, you may want to stop and consider your current lifestyle for a moment and see what kind of future youre cementing for your hips and joints.
