A note about Natural Cure for Hair Loss and Balding - Holistic Treatment Approach

In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.

In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies.

Diet and Lifestyle

Diet can be a primary factor in promoting hair health. Herbal hair growth treatments have been recorded in numerous texts since ancient times. Often, these remedies treated or reversed hair loss which resulted from poor nutrition or as a side effect of illnesses and disorders. Even today, many sufferers fail to realize how large a part their diet plays in the health of the scalp and hair.

A fundamental principal in a natural cure for hair loss and balding lies in the fact that a healthy diet not only prevents disease, but the same foods ensure a healthy head of hair. Hair loss can be caused by several factors, but lack of proper nutrition plays an important role. A healthy diet needs to be rich in organic whole foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, poultry, fish, eggs, beans, nuts and seeds, which are rich sources of vital nutrients needed for healthy hair roots and the protein keratin.

Here are more lifestyle and dietary tips for using a natural cure for hair loss: Try not to skip meals; reduce salt, sugar, tea, coffee and chocolate intake; avoid stress; comb your hair gently; and avoid using strong chemicals on your hair, such as perms and color treatments.

Vegetarians are prone to hair loss because their diet generally lacks the important nutrients, vitamin B12, iron and lysine. Vegetarians need to be aware of this and supplement their diet.

A healthy diet consists of adequate protein, low refined carbohydrates, and low fat content (albeit with sufficient amounts of the essential omega fatty acids found in flaxseed oil, walnuts, fish and soy products). Omega complex fatty acids reduce inflammation and allow for a healthy head of hair. Indeed, such foods and nutrients are useful weapons in any natural cure for hair loss or balding.

For women, a lack of iron due to depletion in the menstrual cycle can lead to hair loss. Iron-rich foods include broccoli, and may reverse certain forms of hair loss. Foods containing vitamin B12, such as eggs, meat, and poultry (also good sources of protein), could be included.

Certain vitamins have a greater effect on hair loss than others. Increasing the amount of B vitamins in your diet may be the first step towards reversing hair loss and balding. As part of a natural cure for hair loss, the vitamin B complex can be taken as a supplement. The B complex has a substance called biotin, an essential ingredient in the natural hair manufacturing process, as well as overall skin and nail health. This supplement can be taken in dosages up to 2 mg daily.

Zinc and copper should also be taken as part of a regular multivitamin dosage, but should not exceed recommended amounts. One additional supplement recommended especially for women, called methylsulfonylmethane or MSM, has a vital function in hair and skin growth.

If you switch to an organic, pesticide-free diet and take high doses of good multivitamins, you may be able to reverse premature hair loss, as long as the hair loss was not genetic. Generally speaking, though, it is ideal that you try to obtain as much nutrition as possible from natural, whole foods

Always use caution and consult a qualified holistic health practitioner or nutritionist before making drastic changes to your diet.

The following supplements may be helpful additions to a natural cure for hair loss and balding:

  • Vitamin C
  • B complex
  • Evening primrose oil
  • Fish oil
  • Kelp
  • Lysine

Massage and Aromatherapy

Massage and aromatherapy can also form an inexpensive and simple part of a natural cure for hair loss. Massaging the scalp for a few minutes every day can aid in returning circulation to the scalp and, in mild cases of temporary hair loss, will stimulate hair re-growth. During massage, blood and oxygen flow continuously to the scalp, which must be healthy in order for hair to grow.

Use a blend of lavender and bay essential oils in a base of four ounces of either almond, soybean or sesame oil to massage the scalp. Allow the oil to sit for 20 minutes to gently stimulate the scalp. Once the mixture has had the opportunity to penetrate the scalp for 20 minutes, wash your hair and scalp with your normal shampoo mixed with three drops of bay essential oil.

As part of your natural cure for hair loss, you may also like to try an Eastern method called Qi Gong (especially if you have long fingernails and worry about scratching your scalp). The method has been used to increase circulation to the scalp and face for centuries and uses a tapping motion to massage instead of fingertip pressure. Place your fingers at the center of the skull base and then begin tapping. You can work outward toward your ears, then go back to the center of the skull, work your way around to the ear region again, moving slightly higher up.

Exercise as part of a Natural Cure for Hair Loss and Balding

Finally, although exercise cannot directly grow hair, most holistic practitioners recommend it as part of a natural cure for hair loss and balding. As a complete holistic system, the body should be treated as a unified system in which one disturbance can cause a chain reaction resulting in potential hair loss.

Take a few minutes each day to exercise. This will improve blood flow, the delivery of oxygen to the cells of the body, and help the digestion of foods, all things that aid the health of hair follicles and may be the easiest cure for hair loss.

Whatever method of exercising you choose, simply exercise to improve overall health. In combination with the other natural methods, exercise will only help you reverse your hair loss condition, and should form an integral part of any natural cure for hair loss or balding.
