A note about Symptoms of Migraine Headaches - Common Signs

In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.

In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies.

It’s important to know that there are many different types of headaches that you can get and that some of them may be pretty severe. Often, you may have a severe headache and think it’s a migraine when it really isn’t. Symptoms of a migraine headache can be very distinct, although some are the same as many other types of headaches that you might get.

  • One of the most obvious signs that you are getting a migraine headache is when you get an “aura” or squiggly lights, dots or jagged lights at the edges of your vision. These usually come on about half an hour before the headache starts.

  • Pain will usually occur on one side of the head, but not always, and it will usually last about 4 hours. Some, however, may last a few days, although that is not common. This shouldn’t be used as the only identifying symptom, however, as cluster headaches do the same thing.

  • Nausea and vomiting is often a sign that you are having a very bad migraine. You may, however, never experience these symptoms of migraine headaches, or you might have nausea but no vomiting. This is one of the easiest ways to tell if you are having a migraine.

  • If you have an inability to handle various noises, lights or smells, it is likely that you are suffering from a migraine headache. This is why lots of migraine sufferers will stay in a dark, quiet room while they are having a headache, as it makes the pain more bearable.

These aren’t the only symptoms of migraine headaches, of course. Others include cold hands and feet, changes in mood, and tiredness.

It’s important to know that you may not have all these symptoms of migraine headaches at one time, and that you may never experience some of them. For example, you may be able to handle light, but are extremely sensitive to sound. Or, you may only become nauseous and never get sick. You may see the aura, but then only find yourself faced with a small headache that lasts for a couple of days.

Many people who suffer from migraine headaches try to avoid certain triggers. They can be ready for their migraines because they know many of the warning signs, such as being lethargic, craving certain foods, mood swings, etc.

If you think that you get migraine headaches, you should track your symptoms to see if yours are the same. Don’t confuse the symptoms of a sinus headache for those of a migraine or tension headache, as they are different.

Tension headaches will often feel like a band is around your head, squeezing it tight. A sinus headache is usually toward the front of the head, and most commonly found around the eyes, behind the eyes, in the cheek region of the face, or by the ears. These will often be throbbing headaches, because the sinuses are swollen, but this is not a migraine, as it doesn’t have any of the other symptoms of migraine headaches.
