Colon Detox Diet

This article highlights some pointers of a possible colon detox diet program. This program is simple and easy to follow, but it is recommended that it should be followed consistently for 15 days without deviating from the basics as described below.


To begin with, one should ensure that one is well stocked on organically grown fresh fruits and vegetables. This is because breakfast will include eating fresh fruits like apples, oranges, and pears. This will ensure that there is enough fiber in the diet which will help in the colon cleansing process.

The other meals of the day should contain largely organic vegetables and vegetable-based foods. This will give the intestines a good scrub. If you can, stick to a vegetarian diet, as this will greatly improve the effectiveness of this colon detox diet. Whole grains are okay. If you wish to consume some meat, more pointers are given below.

For food variety and to ensure one obtains the full spectrum of nutrients, eat a wide range of different colored vegetarian foods. In addition, consume different types of foods, including vegetables, beans, legumes, nuts, seeds, sprouts, etc.

Throughout the day, one must also drink about 10-12 glasses of hot water, since this will also help in the digestion process and ease any constipation related problems.

Carbohydrates and Proteins

During the colon detox diet for 15 days, it is recommended that one does not consume carbohydrates and protein-rich foods together during the same meal. Digestive juices are secreted based on the food type and if one consumes a lot of carbohydrates and proteins, two different types of digestive juices are released and they will hinder the digestion process from being carried out effectively and completely. This is one of the main reasons for bloating of the abdomen, accumulation of gas, and constipation.

If one chooses to follow a protein diet, one can include chicken breast grilled, boiled vegetables like carrots and broccoli, as well as salads containing cucumber and green, red, or yellow pepper.

For a carbohydrate meal, one can include whole-wheat pasta, brown bread, and salad with an assortment of vegetables.

However, it is important to remember it is one or the other but not a combination of items from both. This will not only be ineffective but cause problems.

Other Pointers

It is always advisable to dine early and not intake any food post dinner for about two or three hours before retiring for the day. This is because once the body goes into rest mode or sleep mode, digestion and food assimilation gets slowed down and if all the food is digested before going into deep sleep, the body will rest well and so will all the organs within the body.

One can always drink herbal teas or light teas without milk, cream, and sugar two or three times daily depending upon one's requirement. Herbal teas prepared from herbs like dandelion, rosemary, thyme, sage etc help in the detoxification process and have a soothing effect on the digestive system.

Once again, do keep in mind that the effectiveness of this suggested colon detox diet is largely amplified when one sticks to a vegetarian diet.
